However, a Cabinet paper has also been released which highlights the Tories long-term plans to dismantle the Welfare State. The Guardian reports:-
The proposals considered by her cabinet included compulsory charges for schooling and a massive scaling back of other public services. "This would of course mean the end of the National Health Service," declared a confidential cabinet memorandum by the Central Policy Review Staff in September 1982.This all sounds eerily familiar. It is what the Labour party always claimed the Tory plan was, and what they always denied in public. As one of the comments on the Guardian site says today (I take this somewhat out of context). They can sell, destroy but build nothing. Contemptible run of vandals.
