About the Regeneration of Nunhead

It's been pointed out to us that - despite the name of the blog - there appears to be precious little about Nunhead in The Trees Around Nunhead.

Which we must admit could be construed as a flaw.

So it is about time we wrote again about the Regeneration of Nunhead. 

Which seems to be a topic close to the heart of the local council, if their new Web site, explicitly URL'd LoveNunhead is anything to go by. 

Now we have some reservations about this resource; not least because it focuses almost wholly on the Green, and doesn't really offer anything to what we would call Upper Nunhead (Ivydale Road, Cheltenham Rd, The Ivy House Community Pub, and the houses and organisations round about).

But for a far more detailed and concerted critique of the Nunhead Regeneration scheme - all new shopfronts and lighting, with a grab-bag of other random ideas - as it applies to the Village, at least - a good place to start would be Nunhead Nags.  See especially the Nunhead Nags in Full entry.  We especially like there point about the fried chicken shop proposals.

And yet there are elements that still aren't tackled, even by the Naggers.  A simple example: Nunhead Lane gets quite a lot of unnecessary traffic down it, if you ask us.  We get the impression that some hauliers see it as a faster alternative to the A202.  So where are the traffic calming & cycle friendly schemes? 

It is probably a good idea that Something Is Being Done.  But we worry.  As mentioned before, we went to see the consultation about the two new build schemes planned for the green, and We Were Not Impressed.
