Spring
Gerard Manley Hopkins
Nothing is so beautiful as spring—
When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush;
Thrush’s eggs look little low heavens, and thrush
Through the echoing timber does so rinse and wring
The ear, it strikes like lightnings to hear him sing;
The glassy peartree leaves and blooms, they brush
The descending blue; that blue is all in a rush
With richness; the racing lambs too have fair their fling.
What is all this juice and all this joy?
A strain of the earth’s sweet being in the beginning
In Eden garden.—Have, get, before it cloy,
Before it cloud, Christ, lord, and sour with sinning,
Innocent mind and Mayday in girl and boy,
Most, O maid’s child, thy choice and worthy the winning.

Nunhead Spring
And so it was a lovely Summer Spring Sunday in Nunhead, which meant a bacons sandwich in Bambuni's. Grin.
And a brief stroll around the Green.
Magnolia in bloom...
And Japanese cherry...
And the chinese willow is just beginning...

Pizza Stopping
For reasons that will become clear in time, on Saturday evening we sampled the delights of the Buxton branch of Pizza Express. The serving staff were very helpful, and the food was OK to nice. But the garlic bread was too small, there were too few waiters and the kitchen staff were very slow.
So Pizza Express wasn't.
So Pizza Express wasn't.
Clear Blue Rye
What a contrast with last Monday! A beautiful clear blue sky stretching across the Rye. Bit chilly, 'tho!

Poem of the Week
Radio Poem
Bertolt Brecht
You little box, held to me escaping
So that your valves should not break
Carried from house to house to ship from sail to train,
So that my enemies might go on talking to me,
Near my bed, to my pain
The last thing at night, the first thing in the morning,
Of their victories and of my cares,
Promise me not to go silent all of a sudden.

Carried from house to house to ship from sail to train,

Near my bed, to my pain

Of their victories and of my cares,
Promise me not to go silent all of a sudden.
