Planes and Pollarding

I stopped the last post where I did because it was late and I could feel a rant coming on about the frequent pollarding of the London plane ("both costly and unnecessary" - The Guardian).  Many of the London planes around here have been very heavily pollarded, and far too often, to my way of thinking.

They grow back of course, and quite vigorously and quickly, but to me they always look somehow stunted and odd-shaped thereafter.  Like brocolli.  Quite unpleasant and unnecessary.
